Purpose
This position is responsible for the care of the family children (ages 8 and 6) and their home. The position can be live-in or live-out.
Eligibility:
You must be currently eligible to work in Canada. If you are not authorized to work in Canada, do not apply. The employer will not respond to your application.
Language:
Must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English.
Location:
Near Bathurst St. & Lawrence Ave. in Toronto
Duties:
Child Care
Child care is the primary function of this position and takes priority over other duties. The children should be encouraged to be independent and responsible. Typical child-care tasks include:
– Preparing and feeding the children breakfast (e.g. cereal, toaster waffles, bagels, milk, juice)
– Preparing packed lunches for the children (e.g. sandwich, fruit, snack, treat)
– Tidying up after breakfast
– Coordinating play-dates for the children
– Walking the children to friends’ homes
– Supervising the children while playing alone, together, or with friends, both at home and at other locations
– Playing with and entertaining the children, including indoor and outdoor activities
– Guiding the children to clean up after themselves, and helping as needed
– Bathing the children
– Preparing and feeding snacks to children and playmates (e.g. cut-up fruit, vegetables, crackers, cheese, cookies)
– Encouraging them to try new foods
– Preparing dinner for the children and helping to feed them (e.g. noodles and sauce, frozen chicken fingers, cut-up fruit)
– Tidying up after the children’s dinners
– Helping them with reading, writing, and math
– Helping them with homework
House Cleaning
As a family, we keep a tidy house. The children are encouraged to pick up after themselves before starting a new activity.
Typical house cleaning include:
– Vacuuming, mopping, and dusting
– Cleaning bathrooms and kitchen
– Loading and emptying the dishwasher, washing other dishes
– Laundry, including delicate and lay-flat articles
– Cleaning stains from furniture and surfaces
– Making the beds
– Keeping the clutter in the home under control
– Collecting and taking out the garbage and recycling; placing the cans at the curb on appropriate days and then returning them to their appropriate places once the contents have been collected
– Other housework, as needed
Home Management
Typical tasks include:
– Taking in packages and deliveries
– Keeping an eye on repairmen if parents are unavailable
– Taking note of items around the home that need repair and informing parents
– Identifying toys and other items that are no longer needed, so that they can be donated to charity
– Shoveling snow from the front stairs and walkway (does not include the driveway), and putting down salt
– Keeping a list of needed groceries and supplies
– Periodically picking up grocery items from local stores
– Gardening, as desired
– Basic food preparation (e.g. cutting vegetables) or cooking, as desired
Other Duties
The typical duties of the position have been described above. However, there may be opportunities to help out in other ways as the family and the position evolves.
Remuneration
Wages: $20/hr, 40 hours/week – 1 year contract with possibility to extend
Vacation: 2 weeks paid vacation
Pay schedule: twice per month, paid before the 5th and 20th of the month
Pay stubs will be provided and include a breakdown of earnings, taxes, employment insurance, Canada pension, and vacation earned/used.
