Position Overview
The Community Service Worker is responsible for coordinating and delivering community outreach initiatives, social support programs, and volunteer-led services that support vulnerable populations. The position plays a key role in program implementation, client support, and operational coordination across KAF’s community initiatives, including food security programs, newcomer support, youth mentoring, and seniors outreach.
The role requires strong cultural competency, experience working with diverse communities, and the ability to coordinate volunteers and program activities that serve immigrants, families, seniors, youth, and community partners.
Key Responsibilities
Community Program Delivery
· Provide social service support and mentoring to community members, including new immigrants, seniors, youth, students, and families accessing KAF programs.
· Support the implementation of community initiatives, including food security programs, mentoring programs, newcomer settlement supports, and community engagement activities.
· Participate in the intake, selection, and admission of clients into appropriate KAF programs and services.
Client Support and Case Coordination
· Meet regularly with program participants to assess progress, provide guidance, and identify barriers to participation or well-being.
· Maintain client records and program documentation in accordance with organizational policies and privacy standards.
· Identify individual client needs and assist participants in navigating social services systems.
Community Resource Navigation
· Refer clients to relevant community services and external support networks, including:
o Legal services
o Medical and mental health supports
o Housing assistance
o Employment services
o Transportation programs
o Childcare and family support services
· Assist clients in locating and accessing appropriate services and resources within the community.
Volunteer and Program Coordination
· Coordinate and supervise volunteers, support workers, and program assistants involved in KAF community programs.
· Develop volunteer schedules, training sessions, and performance support mechanisms.
· Collaborate with community organizations, social agencies, and partner groups to support joint initiatives.
Production and Program Operations
· Support the planning and coordination of community events, outreach programs, workshops, and production activities related to KAF Agricultural, Farm and Food Production initiatives.
· Coordinate logistical aspects of community service delivery including scheduling, volunteer deployment, and program resource management.
· Ensure program activities are delivered in accordance with KAF policies, safety standards, and community impact goals.
Leadership and Supervision
· Provide supervision and guidance to social service support staff and volunteers.
· Assist senior leadership with program planning, evaluation, and reporting.
· Contribute to program development, community partnerships, and outreach strategies.
Qualifications
· Post-secondary education (Though not mandatory, training and certifications in social work, community development, sociology, public administration, or a related discipline will be preferred.)
· Minimum 2–3 years of experience in community services, social support programs, or nonprofit program coordination.
· Experience working with diverse populations, including immigrants, youth, seniors, and marginalized communities.
· Strong understanding of community resources and social service systems in Canada.
· Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to supervise volunteers and coordinate community program activities.
Preferred Skills
· Good communication abilities.
· Experience working with food security initiatives or community resource centers.
· Cultural competency working with newcomer and BIPOC communities.
· Knowledge of the Canadian social services network and community resource systems.
Experience:
2 or more years of experience.
Education:
Post-secondary education in any social science discipline.

Salary: $36-$40.00 per hour (depending on experience)
